Ondansetron 40 mg/20 mL multidose vial (MDV) is a pharmaceutical preparation containing the active ingredient ondansetron hydrochloride, a selective serotonin 5-HT3 receptor antagonist. It is primarily used to prevent and treat nausea and vomiting associated with chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and post-surgical recovery. By blocking serotonin in the gastrointestinal tract and central nervous system, ondansetron reduces the stimulation of the vomiting center.

This medication is presented as a sterile, clear, and colorless injectable solution suitable for intravenous or intramuscular administration. Each 20 mL multidose vial contains 40 mg of ondansetron, equating to a concentration of 2 mg/mL, along with excipients to maintain stability and sterility.

Ondansetron is well-tolerated but may cause side effects such as headache, constipation, or fatigue. In rare cases, it may lead to serious adverse reactions, including QT prolongation, hypersensitivity reactions, or serotonin syndrome, particularly when combined with other serotonergic agents.
